Channel Management for Internal Communication
This course is designed to help attendees make the most of their internal communication channels, enabling the delivery of meaningful and compelling communication, the cultivation of positive employee experiences, and facilitating effective multi-directional communication.
The course will explore channel strategy and how to ensure channels are supporting the achievement of internal communication, employee experience and wider organisational aims. It will also cover channel categories, communication direction, media richness theory and storytelling, as well as how to measure the success of channels and how to apply that knowledge for continuous improvements.
The programme is split over two sessions with a practical task to complete in between to support the application of learning and offer the opportunity for feedback.
Who should attend?
The course is suitable for new/early channel managers, or those who are more experienced but would like support with their approach or to refresh their skills and knowledge.
The course is aligned to the 'Channel and Community Management' Profession Area of the map, as well as 'Conducting Research, Measuring and Demonstrating Value' and 'Strategy, Planning and Business Acumen'.
Learning objectives
By the end of the course, delegates will:
- Feel more confident in selecting, integrating and using the most appropriate channels
- Use your channels for effective multi-directional communication
- Understand the difference and specific value of rich as well as lean media
- Be better equipped using different channels for compelling communication and stimulating employee experiences
- Understand how to measure the success of channels and tell your channel story.
The course will cover
Part One: Thursday 3rd April, 14:00 - 17:00 (BST)
- An overview of the importance of business, IC and digital strategy when defining our channels
- Strategy for success - how do you define what ‘good’ looks like?
- The essential nature of channels for communication delivery
- Communication direction - top down, lateral comms - push and pull comms - and why each are important/use of each.
Self-Study: Task to complete between sessions (mapping exercise)
Part Two: Thursday 10th April, 14:00 - 17:00 (BST)
- Show/tell/feedback from self-study task
- Media richness and the ‘treatment’ we give our content (video, podcasts, newsletters, posters etc)
- Multichannel vs Omnichannel
- Measurement - qualitative and quantitative consideration and how to tell a compelling story about your channels.
