Inclusive Language Masterclass: the use of respectful words for effective workplace diversity and inclusion communication.
This timely Masterclass will act as a guide to respectful language, exploring the purpose of inclusive language, the best words to use for different diverse communities and understanding why they matter, and how microaggressions play a part in language for different communities.
The session will include group exercises and discussions and Q&A with your trainer Charlotte Butler who is a workplace inclusion specialist with a focus on empathy-building.
Who should attend?
Anyone who has the responsibility for crafting messaging or advising stakeholders on respectful language around diversity topics, e.g. communicators, both internal or external, marketers, HR, PR, managers, leaders.
Learning Objectives
- Learning the purpose of inclusive language – based on respect and empathy
- Learning the best words to use for different diverse communities and understanding why they matter
- Understanding how microaggressions play a part in language for different communities – e.g. intrusive or limiting questions
- Taking some time to talk to peers about experiences with language around diversity
- Coaching on unfamiliar diversity topics by Charlotte Butler
The course will cover
A guide to respectful language around the following diversity areas:
• Disability
• Race and Ethnicity
• LGBTQ+
• Non-binary gender identity
• Transgender
• Neurodiversity.
There will also be lots of opportunity for discussion and questions.
