It’s usually around now that I start to get reflective over the past year. Have I achieved my goals, what needs an extra push and how on earth do I represent everything I’ve achieved at the end of the year?

So last month, I was really pleased to be offered the chance to take a sneak peek at the IoIC’s new careers hub and diagnostic tool and this year, I think, my year-end reflections will be just a little bit easier.

Back in 2022, I took on an Advanced Diploma with the IoIC and got familiar with the learning materials on their site, as well as their Profession Map.

For anyone who hasn’t come across it yet, the profession map is a really comprehensive collection of all the skills and personal attributes it takes to tackle the full-on world of IC.

It breaks everything down into levels, so you can assess your skills across different areas, like strategy, measurement and influencing; whether you’re just starting out or are further into your career.

To test the new tools, I took a quick self-assessment online about my skills and after the 10 minutes it took me to complete, I’d got a full report back that highlights my strengths and my skills gaps.

One of the best things I’ve found as a member of the IoIC is how supportive they are, as peers, as an organisation and with their knowledge resources. It was fantastic to see that every section of my personalised report links back to their massive back-catalogue of resources, support and learning and I’ve really enjoyed taking a deep dive into some of the articles and podcasts that were suggested for me.

The new Diagnostic Tool and Careers Hub have just been launched for members and I think they’re a really worthy use of some time, particularly as we come up to the end of the year.

When you work in IC, everyone wants a piece of you and your time and, don’t get me wrong, I love that aspect of the role. It gives you a really privileged view of your organisation, but it can also make it tricky to make the time and space to learn so I love how targeted this approach is.

I’ve got my report ready for my next one-to-one with my manager and it’ll be a really useful tool at the end of year to prompt those all-important development conversations and shape some learning for next year.

So, whether you’re just curious or you’re really keen to get to the next level, I’d definitely recommend you give the new hub a go!
