Back in 2018, faced with the daunting prospect of enhancing a communication strategy with limited 'internal communication' experience, a Google search introduced me to the IoIC. Soon after, with a lot of research and IoIC training courses under my belt, I was equipped with a foundation knowledge, a membership to the IoIC community and an eagerness to make a difference.
From day one, I've been delighted with the rounded knowledge I've built. Yet, more importantly, be it through training courses, Voice magazine, professional qualifications or more, there has always been a good balance between theory and practical application, enabling successful implementation.
For me, this balance is the real difference: it's what gives us the credibility to #WeMatterAtWork.
Never has this been more imperative than through the Covid-19 crisis. Faced with the most unprecedented of situations, being an IoIC member has offered me practical, community-based advice and mentorship: from timely remainders of basic communication principles through the midst of pressure and uncertainty, to learning how our New Zealand-based colleagues have enabled a successful return to the office.
This support and learning, pre and during the crisis, has enabled me to influence a stronger team culture. What's more, I'm very confident that from a very bad situation, new and sustainable opportunity will rise for colleagues across the UK and beyond.
Thus, having completed the Advanced Diploma of Proficiency in Internal Communication in 2019, I'm excited to be taking on the Masters in Internal Communication Management later this year and further developing my ability to help my organisation reach new heights.
So, two and a half years on from that fruitful Google search, I've advanced my internal communication skills and knowledge, forged some valuable relationships and, as a result, delivered success through effective communication in my organisation.
My membership with the IoIC has truly helped me make a difference and #WeMatterAtWork and I couldn't recommend it more.
