We shine our Member Spotlight on Rosy Robles, who firmly believes that when people feel informed and valued, it creates a workplace where they want to stay, contribute, and grow. She shares how incredibly fulfilling it is to know her work supports this environment.
I work within the biopharma sector, focusing on advanced therapies, where I develop and deliver internal communications plans that align with our strategic goals. This involves partnering with key teams, such as staff committees, HR, senior leadership, Operations, IT, etc. to ensure that our messaging remains consistent, clear, and engaging across all sites. I collaborate closely with colleagues to advise on best practices and create content that not only informs but is also designed to drive engagement.
My membership with IoIC has been brilliant so far—I find it’s a great way to stay updated, learn fresh approaches, and bring new insights back to support my teams even better.
I was drawn to internal communications because of the unique and understated role it plays in influencing an organisation’s culture and success. Research shows that when internal comms is done well, it makes a measurable difference in employee engagement and productivity. Further studies also highlight that employees who feel connected to an organisation’s goals tend to be more motivated, and this has such a positive impact on retention and overall morale. For me, the most rewarding part is seeing these effects unfold in real time. When people feel informed and valued, it creates a workplace where people want to stay, contribute, and grow. Knowing that my work supports that environment is incredibly fulfilling.
My IoIC membership has been a brilliant resource for my professional growth. I’ve attended webinars that have provided fresh insights and practical advice, which I can apply immediately to my work. I’ve also applied for the mentorship scheme and am looking forward to being matched with a mentor. Having someone experienced to bounce ideas off and learn from will be a real advantage for me in my career. The case studies from IoIC have been particularly helpful too—they show best practices in action and new approaches to problem-solving. Altogether, it’s kept me engaged, inspired, and continuously evolving in my role.
One achievement I’m particularly proud of is developing my current company’s first internal communications hub. Before this, there wasn’t a dedicated place to share internal news stories, so creating the hub was really meaningful and transformative. It allowed us to bring news, updates, and stories into one accessible space. I also took the opportunity to reshape our content—combining lean and rich media to keep things engaging. The positive feedback from colleagues brings me a real sense of accomplishment, particularly knowing that it’s become a part of our daily communication and keeps us all a bit more connected.
Internal comms is a good mix of creativity and technical skill, so building strong writing skills and keeping your ideas fresh are a good start. As we say in comms, knowing your audience is key—think about who they are and what resonates with them, as it’s often the small adjustments that make a message connect. It’s also worth exploring new tools and approaches as they emerge; they can open up ways to bring your work to life and engage people meaningfully. Above all, keep experimenting and learning—it’s a field that rewards a curious mindset!
I was such a huge Harry Potter fan that I actually wrote my own fan fiction! I really went all out, creating new adventures for the characters and putting my heart into every chapter. Sadly, it’s lost now, but looking back, it was a great creative outlet and a lot of fun to write—it’s one of those things that sparked my love for storytelling.
