Can being a therapist teach us anything about what it means to be an internal communicator and how we do internal communications? (The answer is yes, I think it can!). In this session we’ll explore how training and practising as a therapist has provided new insight in how to be with and alongside an organisation, manage and navigate power and work with colleagues, leadership and partners in a way that is attuned, relational, responsive and anti-oppressive.
Together we’ll explore, be curious, journal and ground ourselves as internal communicators and human beings.
Three takeaways from the session:
- What are the similarities between being a therapist and an internal communicator?
- What new / different ways of being and doing can IC-ers develop?
- How and why the learning and application of these skills can support the people and culture

Farah has been an internal comms professional for over 8 years, working in Higher Education and currently in the Charity Sector. During this time, she also trained and qualified as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist (with a brief stint as a pandemic florist).
